FEBRUARY LUNCHEON

In February, we will offer a new venue and format. Our meeting will be held at 12:00 noon at the Naval Postgraduate School on the Quarterdeck on February 26. Naval Postgraduate School Professor Chuck Calvano’s talk about the cruise of the Great White Fleet will be insightful and relevant.

OUR SPEAKER:
CAPT Charles Calvano, USN(Ret), graduated from the US Naval Academy in 1963 and went on to earn a Master’s as well as a Naval Engineer’s Degree from MIT in 1970. He went on to a distinguished career with the US Navy as an Engineering Duty Officer specializing in ship design and construction. Professor Emeritus Calvano’s experience with the Naval Postgraduate School includes Director of the Total Ship Systems Engineering (TSSE) program (1991 – 2004), Associate Director Meyer Institute of Systems Engineering (2001 – 2004), and Professor, Systems Engineering Department (2007). From 2004 to 2007 he was assigned to the Office of Naval Research Global Office in London, where he was the Chief Scientist. Professor Calvano’s current teaching interests include Systems Engineering, Ship Design, and Naval Architecture. His awards include Fellow, Royal Institution of Naval Architecture, Meritorious Civilian Service Award, Fellow, of Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers, Richard Hamming Award for Interdisciplinary Achievement, Mechanical Engineering Department Outstanding Researcher, and Mechanical Engineering Department Outstanding Instructor. He is a Fellow of the Royal Institution of Naval Architects and of the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers
