Memorial Day Ceremony

The Navy League of the United States, Monterey Council invites you to attend our Memorial Day wreath-laying ceremony. On May 28, 2007, our council will lay a wreath in the Monterey Bay on Memorial Day in memory of our fallen comrades. The ceremony will begin at 10 am aboard U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Hawksbill and will include a Three-Bell ceremony conducted by the Fleet Reserve. Mario Iglesia will play the bugle and Monterey High ROTC will provide a color guard. Council members are invited to view the ceremony on board, or from the Coast Guard pier if you would rather not board the ship.

If you would like to attend, to get to the Coast Guard pier from Del Monte Avenue , go under the tunnel where the street turns into Lighthouse Avenue. You’ll need to get into the right-hand lane. As the street veers to the right it turns into Foam Street. Continue on Foam Street to the first stoplight and turn right into the parking lot and boat launch area at the Coast Guard Pier.

Be prepared with jackets or sweaters and comfortable shoes, as the Hawksbill will likely be underweigh when we lay our wreaths.
